Shore

Skin icy cold,
Waves wash over,
Silent cloak engulfing—
Nothing.

Troubled waters surface
From depths unknown.
The tide pulls
Against each stroke.

Then a break
In the waves—
Still.

Waves lap over,
Gentle now.
Floating among them,
Peaceful.

Up above,
A thousand brilliant stars
Gaze down.

Waves no longer thrash
But bring me back to shore.
