Bamboo

Stem upright and proud
Pointing towards heaven.
Mystical beauty
Strong and unyielding,
Strength to lift up grown men.

Flexible, bending in changing winds,
Roots grounded.

Leaves, lustrous green,
Full of eternal life.

(A poem about bamboo, scared and adored in ancient Chinese culture for its strength, resilience and flexibility. Bamboo symbolises grace, longevity and  harmony of man with nature, the balance of life. There is a famous proverb in the Chinese ancient literature which describes bamboo as strong and resilient, but bending with the wind and then returning to its upright position once the wind has passed, which my relative told me and inspired me to write this proverbial poem.)
